In one example, Superior Tray Systems built a 35kV cable bus system for a Uranium mine, where, in any given year, the outdoor temperature could range from -34.6^oF to 109.4^oF. These weather extremes would result in thermal expansion and contraction of conductors. Ground movement would also occur as underground ice forms and melts. Adding to the challenge, the limited space between equipment required a cable bus system that can handle tight turns. The tight spacing and the temperature extremes would also introduce mechanical stress on any electrical distribution system.

To address the challenge of ground movement, we built a long section of cable bus mounted above the ground. This system had hinged fittings to allow for the expansion and contraction of conductors. Weather-proof equipment transition enclosures were designed and manufactured with waterproof Neoprene seals. We designed and manufactured an additional pull-box to be placed under the equipment in order to create enough room for the conductors to be bent into the correct positions and connected. We also designed a custom support block arrangement to incorporate these cables into a smaller system footprint to accommodate the tight spacing. These unique features resulted in a custom-engineered solution for our customer.
