Oil Containment is a necessity required by Federal EPA SPCC Regulations and Solidification Products (SPI) has been providing all types of Oil Containment Systems since 1999. SPI’s patented products are used in oil containment applications providing our customers the ability to drain oil and sheen free rainwater while providing 100% oil containments in the event of a transformer failure.

New Substations design and construction using concrete or liner fabric requires SPCC regulation be followed and SPI products can be used in a multitude of ways to drain rain water. Customization is never a problem and implementing the right SPI product for the transformer containment drainage is best determined during the initial design stage.

In the application pictured Petro-Barriers are used to drain the rainwater from the Substation transformers above. There are 2 - 11” Petro-Barriers per transformer containment area draining all the rainwater to the city sewer system. The Petro-Barriers have dirt filters that can be easily cleaned to keep them draining water for years. When the Petro-Barrier needs to be replaced the cartridge is removed by disconnecting the stainless steel screws from the flange and lifting it out of the steel housing. A new Petro-Barrier Cartridge is slipped into the flanged steel housing and the system is working again. SPI smart designs that limit maintenance and make changing cartridges an easy task which serves as a benefit. SPI products have been used in many transformer failures including several fires and no SPI product has ever released oil.
