Be prepared for the upcoming storm season. Protect all overhead conductor connections with ClampStar®. Do it now, before the lines hit the ground!

Classic Connectors USA continues to expand their offering, introducing the largest ClampStar® yet for handling conductor up to 2000 kcmil which will soon be followed by the largest size in the offering and will accommodate 2750 kcmil.

  • Installs in less than 10 minutes!
  • Easily installs over existing connectors
  • No mechanical grips, Come-Alongs, jumper cables or cutters needed
  • Installs with a hot stick or barehand
  • Corona Free through 500kV DC and 765kV AC

As the grid ages, many electric utilities are experiencing a large increase in downed lines due to overhead connectors reaching the end of their service life. Installing ClampStars on them before they fail is the best way to prevent outages and protect the public.

This new ClampStar® model CSR-1631-048 is designed to protect and thermally uprate connectors to help meet n-1 contingency conditions as well as continuous service on overhead transmission lines with Aluminum and ACSR type conductors sized from 1272 Bittern to 1780 Chukar and up through 2000 kcmil Cowslip AAC

ClampStar® is a permanent repair fitting composed of two conductor attachment heads and a framework connecting the attachment heads both electrically and mechanically to provide an integral unit.

Repairs are performed without cutting the conductor.  ClampStar® units may be installed on energized conductors with gloves, hot line tools, or "barehand method" from any platform (including helicopters) depending on system voltage and preferred work method. ClampStar® units may be used for a variety of repair situations, at splices, dead-ends, suspension systems, or wherever conductor damage has occurred.

ClampStar® shunts provide an excellent solution for PERMANENT mechanical and electrical upgrade to existing conductor connections. And ClampStar® helps meet NERC's maximum conductor operating temperature requirements without costly replacement, repair or expensive downtime.

ClampStar® sizes from #6 AWG - 1780 kcmil are available for splices, suspension clamps, deadends, and damaged conductor repair and are designed for use on all aluminum stranded conductors, including; ACSR, AAC, AAAC, ACAR, ACSS, Self Damping Conductor & Fiber composite core. ClampStar® units are available with corona shielding through 500kV and are also available for use on copper conductors and overhead shield wire.

Tether brackets and assemblies are incorporated to restore mechanical strength for deadend and tangent suspension installations.  ClampStar® units are designed for High Temperature Applications up to 250°C continuous operation on HTLS conductors.

Each unit is pre-filled with proprietary CC2 inhibitor to prevent galvanic corrosion and is designed with an integral fastening assembly that provides a high conductivity path and incorporates at and Belleville washers to maintain compressive force regardless of temperature induced contraction and expansion.

Please visit the Classic Connectors booth #4736 at the upcoming IEEE show to see a hands-on ClampStar® installation demonstration and to discuss your specific needs with our application engineers.
